Getting Started

Simple To Do List is a straightforward task manager. Add tasks, check them off when done, and stay on top of your day.

Adding tasks

Switch to Edit mode. Type a task in the Add item field at the bottom of the screen and tap the + button (or press Enter).

Voice input

Tap the Add item field, then tap the microphone icon on your keyboard to add tasks by voice.

Edit & Use Modes

The app has two clear modes, shown as chip toggles on the action bar just below the top bar. Switch between them at any time.

Edit Mode

Use this mode to add and organise your tasks:

  • Quick Add — the add-task bar appears at the bottom of the screen
  • Drag & Drop — drag handles appear on each task so you can prioritise your list
  • Delete Checked Items — available in the action bar menu to remove completed tasks

Use Mode

Switch to Use mode to focus on getting things done:

  • Check off tasks as you complete them — checked tasks automatically hide
  • Undo — a snackbar appears after each check with an Undo button
  • Confetti celebration — when every task is checked off, you will see a confetti animation!

Both Modes

These features work in both Edit and Use mode:

  • Search — tap the magnifying glass to filter your list
  • Edit — long-press a task to edit its name
  • Delete — long-press a task to delete it (with undo)
  • Reminders — long-press a task to add, edit, or cancel a reminder

Using Your To Do List

Here is a simple workflow:

Setting up (Edit mode)

  1. Switch to Edit mode
  2. Add tasks as they come to mind
  3. Drag to prioritise — put the most important tasks at the top

Getting things done (Use mode)

  1. Switch to Use mode to focus on your tasks
  2. Check off tasks as you complete them — they hide automatically
  3. If you check the wrong task, hit Undo on the snackbar
  4. When everything is done, enjoy the confetti celebration!

Use Delete Checked Items in Edit mode to clean up completed tasks, or keep them checked for your records.

Managing Tasks

Editing a task

Long-press on a task to open the context menu, then choose Edit.

Deleting a task

Long-press and choose Delete. An undo bar appears at the bottom of the screen.

Reordering tasks

Drag the handle () on the right side of each task to move it up or down. Drag handles are only visible in Edit mode.

Reminders

Set a reminder on any task to receive a notification at a specific time.

Setting a reminder

Long-press on a task and choose Add Reminder. Pick a date and time.

Editing or cancelling

Long-press the task again to Edit Reminder or Cancel Reminder.

Permissions

On Android 13+, the app will ask for notification permission. Some devices may also require exact alarm permissions.

Google Drive Backup & Restore

Backup & Restore is a premium feature.

Backing up

Main menu → Backup & Restore → sign in → Backup.

Restoring

Tap Restore. A confirmation dialog will appear — restoring replaces all current tasks.

New phone

  1. Back up on your old phone
  2. Install on your new phone
  3. Sign in to the same Google account and restore

Dark Mode

Go to Settings → Appearance and choose:

  • Light — always light
  • Dark — always dark
  • System — follows your device theme

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I reorder tasks?

Drag the handle () on the right side of each task. Handles are only visible in Edit mode.

Q: Can I undo a delete?

Yes — an undo bar appears when you delete a single task. Delete Checked Items cannot be undone.

Q: Does the app collect my data?

No. All data is stored locally. Google Drive backup stores data in your own Google Drive only.
